BFA - Bryst Football Academy Teams Program

What is it?

The Bryst Football Academy (BFA) Teams Program is our highest level program for male & female athletes.  We field teams from U/8 to U/21.  BFA is a year-round development program for competitive players.  Our team of professional coaches and staff create the best possible environment for the development of the player to their full potential.

Athletes will play exclusively for the Academy.  This has proven to provide the athlete with the best combination of advantages, both for present development and future opportunities.

Why Teams?

Soccer in Canada is not developing like the rest of the world. Our entire soccer foundation has been built on a system of volunteer coaches for the past 30+ years. Canada has struggled at the international level due to the lack of a quality "system" that can fully develop and maximize the potential of Canadian players.

We believe that in order to elevate the overall development of Canadian players, the Academy system must evolve. We must identify talented players at a young age, develop and nurture them in a professional environment, with professionally trained coaches, over a longer period of time (season). We must also provide competition based on these same principles of development versus winning games.
We have started this evolution through SAAC (Soccer Academy Alliance of Canada)!

The Philosophy of our Teams Program:
  1. Identify talented youth players with long term potential for professional careers or careers at U.S. or Canadian Universities.
  2. Develop and nurture these youth players through training three times plus one game per week. All players on a team receive fair playing time based on their commitment to excellence.
  3. The development of the individual athlete will focus on the person as a whole. This means technical, tactical, physical, psychological and mental training. Information on nutrition, hydration, goal-setting and treatment of injuries will also be presented.
  4. All training & development programs will be conducted in a positive environment with encouraging and constructive comments and feedback, in order to maintain and build self-esteem and confidence in every athlete.
  5. Training and competition will be held at top quality grass and artificial turf facilities.  Additionally, teams will travel to test themselves versus U.S. competition.  Older teams are entered into U.S. Showcase Tournaments.
  6. Goalkeepers will be trained separately by goalkeeper coaches before working with the teams in tactical training.
  7. Extend the outdoor training and competition from March to November.
  8. All coaching staff is required to pursue professional development on an annual basis through additional certification or coaching experience. Bryst coaching staff have top certification levels from Canada, U.S., Europe and Brazil.
  9. Athletic therapy/medical staff is on-site for all training and competition.

Why Choose Bryst International?

Bryst International is THE top Soccer Academy in Ontario. Bryst was established in 1998 to service the needs of top level players in Ontario, providing them with additional training to raise their level of play to a higher standard. Over the years, we have trained thousands of players in our Programs. Starting in 1998 with an Elite Training Program, Bryst has progressed to multiple programs including our highly successful Junior and Senior Top Dogs Programs. This longevity has allowed us to design programs to meet the needs of our parents and players.

The primary strength of the Bryst Academy is the quality of our professional coaching staff. Our President, Gary Miller, is a former National Team Coach, Provincial Team Coach and holds his A License from Canada, USA and Europe. His education credentials include a BA in Physical Education, a BEd in Secondary School Teaching and a MA in Coaching. Most of the Bryst coaches are certified at a minimum Provincial B License with several of the staff holding UEFA (European), Canadian, and US A and B Licenses. All staff are hand-picked not only for their qualifications, but also for their fit within the 'Bryst culture'.  This is the top coaching staff in the country.

The second strength is that Bryst works from our refined, age-appropriate 'Player Development Model'. This is a fine tuned program created from Player Development Programs throughout Europe. We have gleaned this information over the past 15 years from our travels through Europe and our extensive network with top international coaches. This information has provided our standardized model for teaching the techniques and tactics of the game to the appropriate age group.

The third strength is the quality of the facilities that Bryst works within. Top indoor and outdoor facilities are utilized to train our athletes. Indoor and outdoor turf fields and quality grass fields are provided to allow our coaches and players to perform at their highest potential.

Bryst, as a founding member of SAAC, entered into an agreement with other Ontario Academies to provide inter-Academy competition since 2006. This provided top level players an opportunity to be trained by professional coaches and compete in a professional environment with ongoing feedback on their development.

Who can attend?

This level of training and competition will be made available to competitive level male and female players, ages U8-U21, through a selection process. Bryst Top Dogs players are automatically evaluated for the BFA program.
Tryouts are open to everyone and can be arranged on an ongoing basis at one of our training locations throughout the year. Players can request a tryout at any time HERE.

Why should I attend?

This is an opportunity for young, competitive players to be trained by professional coaches three times a week plus one game a week. The quality and professionalism of the training and the environment will be totally different from what you are experiencing at this time. Coaching sessions will be geared towards a long term plan for the individual player. Long term goals will be determined by each player to source out the best opportunity for their future, whether it will be professional or educational.

Bryst is the leader in the placement of players on Scholarship in the US through a focused academic match-up process. We also have been able to provide some talented male players with professional opportunities in Europe and Brazil. These long term paths will provide parents and players with the guidance they need to plan a future for their son or daughter.
